SO, ABOUT MAIREN...

Mairen is a filmmaker currently based in Vermont. Her work spans documentary, experimental, mixed media, and short narrative film.

Her passion for filmmaking began early. Raised by movie-loving parents, she and her sister spent their childhood creating short films together. At St. Johnsbury Academy, Mairen took her first formal filmmaking courses and quickly fell deeper in love with the craft.

She was among the first students to declare a major in Digital Media and Film at St. Lawrence University, where she also became the first SLU student accepted into the prestigious Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague through a study abroad program.

At St. Lawrence, Mairen discovered a parallel love for film theory and academic research. Her paper, Buffy vs. the Dark Forces of Patriarchy: Sex, Violence, and Sexual Violence in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is set to be published in the scholarly journal THE UNDERGROUND this fall.

As her voice continues to evolve, Mairen is drawn to stories that explore gender theory, psychoanalysis, and the dynamics of community and family. A central theme in her storytelling is the idea of sonder—the realization that every individual is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.
